Welcome to St. John's Military School. SJMS is a private boarding military school for 220 male students from grades 6 to 12. The faculty and staff at St. John's are dedicated to helping a student develop his leadership and academic skills in a structured environment. Our mission is to provide each Cadet with the opportunity to grow spiritually, morally, intellectually, and physically in a structured environment. Our specialty is developing that hidden potential that we believe lies in every boy.
Through the foresight and efforts of an Episcopal Bishop, the Right Reverend Elisha Smith Thomas and a group of concerned Salina, Kansas businessmen, St. John's came into being. These men recognized the need for a disciplined educational and living environment for young boys and undertook the task of establishing a military school to be operated under church auspices.
On October 28, 1887, The Episcopal Military Institute purchased a portion of a fertile Kansas homestead and St. John's Military School was born. Instead of producing wheat, this acreage has, for more than 120 years, helped to raise young men.
