The academics at St. John's Military School are the forefront of our focus. Because of our emphasis on academics our school accreditation is vital to our mission. St. John's is accredited by two distinct and respectable agencies: 1)Kansas State Department of Education and 2) AdvancEd. The dual accreditation insures constant reflection and improvement as a whole school. The accreditation process measures not only academic performance but quality staff and student life.

St. John's Military School is one of the only military schools in the nation accredited by a state's education department. To meet the Kansas State Department of Education's (KSDE) criteria schools must meet expectations in four areas. Performance, qualified personnel, graduation and attendance rates must meet state goals.

Student Performance must meet or exceed the state and national goals. These goals have been set by legislation to meet the expectations of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). These performance goals are in the subjects of Math, Reading, Science and Social Science. Each state mandates assessments in these subjects in designated grade levels. St. John's Military School has well surpassed state and federal goals to meet the performance standards.

Qualified personnel are a key component to meeting performance standards. The state of Kansas requires that 100% of teachers must be teaching in their certified area and must hold a Kansas teaching certificate. St. John's Military School has adhered to this policy long before it became state law.KSDE Logo

Attendance and graduation rates are the final accreditation piece. St. John's Military School demands 100% classroom attendance every day. Graduation rates far exceed state expectations with nearly 100% of our cohort seniors meeting graduation requirements.

To insure a well rounded assessment of the school as a whole the school is accredited through AdvancEd. AdvanceEd is a consolidated agency to include North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), and National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE).This organization services 30 states and 65 foreign countries. This includes approximately 23,000 public and private schools encompassing most of our colleges and universities.

Accreditation by both organizations is completely a voluntary decision by our school. We believe it is one more tool to insure the finest education that money can buy. Dual accreditation helps to emphasize student and staff expectations on a daily basis. At St. John's Military School we accept school improvement not as a need to but as a desire to be better tomorrow than we were yesterday.
