Golf

golf at st john's military schoolThe St. John's golf program begins in late February and ends in May with the close of the school year.

There are typically six tournaments held throughout the spring season. These tournaments are located in the towns of Hillsboro, Chapman, Abilene, Salina, and Ellsworth. The district tournament is in early May which ends the season for most players. The state tournament is usually in mid-May.

St. John's golf practices are rotated over four courses in Salina:  The Elks Lodge, Salina Municipal Golf Course, First Tee, and Riverbend Golf Course. Also, cadets on the golf team will spend time on the driving range at the Salina Municipal Golf Course, helping them tune up their swings. There are several PGA Professionals in Salina that offer lessons in the evening and on the weekends and Cadets are encouraged to work with a PGA professional whenever possible. The overall goal is for the students to make it to the state tournament each year.

The coaching philosophy is to practice to become better players while focusing on golf etiquette and knowledge of golf rules. Academics are of utmost importance, therefore stress is given to maintaining academic achievement.
